Suite of five extensions evaluates manageability of enterprise storage in addition to real world performance.
8 May 2020 -- Redwood City, CA The Storage Performance Council (“SPC”), a multi-vendor industry consortium that has provided realistic, robust, verifiable performance data to the storage marketplace for 20 years, today announced five new extensions to its industry-standard OLTP benchmark, SPC-1™.
The new benchmark extensions provide a realistic assessment of a storage system’s ability to support key facets of data manageability in the modern enterprise:
- Data Reduction
- Snapshot Management
- Data Replication
- Seamless Encryption
- Non-Disruptive Software Upgrade
“We have relied on the SPC for performance data in the storage industry for a long time”, said Tao Huang, VP, Data Storage & Intelligent Vision Product Line of Huawei Technologies, “but until now, we have lacked a solid way to highlight the extra value that our sophisticated Huawei OceanStor Dorado All-Flash Storage Systems bring to customers. The new benchmark extensions represent a real step forward”.
Each of the new benchmark extensions can be published in conjunction with an audited, SPC-1 benchmark result. Those systems that execute all five extensions will be highlighted as GoldStar results to recognize the extra capabilities that they provide. “As the raw capabilities of storage systems continue to climb, customers have learned that business success comes from pairing world class performance with first-in-class data management and efficiency. The new GoldStar program will allow those vendors whose products provide more than simply performance to back their claims of efficiency and manageability with audited, peer reviewed data that a customer can trust”, said John Stephens, Executive Director of the Storage Performance Council.
“Today’s announcement represents the culmination of more than a year’s work by our membership to define and deliver real metrics that broaden the scope and relevance of industry standard benchmarks in enterprise-class storage decisions”, said Stephen Daniel, Hewlett Packard Enterprise Distinguished Technologist and chairman of the SPC’s Steering Committee. “As the SPC builds on that work, and expands the set of approved benchmark extensions, it will move industry-standard benchmarks beyond a narrow focus on throughput and bandwidth to a more complete assessment of integrated storage management”, Daniel predicted.
The new benchmark extensions include detailed run rules, disclosure requirements, and audit protocols to ensure that they continue the SPC tradition of robust, realistic, verifiable benchmark results.
