GoldStar Program

The SPC-1™ Gold Star program is designed to highlight a suite of extensions that are applicable to the general-purpose commercial computing environment. In order to highlight systems that demonstrate both their SPC-1 performance metrics and their ability to perform the additional tasks required the full spectrum of extensions, the SPC highlights such publications with the SPC-1 Gold Star logo.
This document covers the rules for executing, publishing and using SPC-1™ results that include the following extensions (“GoldStar Extensions”):

  • Can only Goldstar results run extensions?

    No. extensions can be included with any benchmark results, once they are released. The Goldstar program is intended to give special recognition to those test sponsor who publish the full spectrum of extensions.

  • What is a benchmark extension?

    Benchmark extensions are optional additions to an existing benchmark that are designed to showcase a feature or set of features, and to provide vendors with a means to differentiate their products across dimensions other than the existing performance or price-performance metrics of the benchmark.

  • How do I know that an SPC result is a GoldStar result?

    Goldstar results are tagged with a special version of the SPC logo (also seen on this page), and are clearly identified on their executive summary.

  • Why are GoldStar results different?

    All storage products are carefully designed to meet their market needs. In some cases, a vendor will opt for a broad range of features that provide mangebility and robustness -- even at the expense of some performance. Goldstar results are meant to highlight these systems, and provide an easy way to identify and compare them.

  • What is a GoldStar result?

    An SPC-1 benchmark result that includes all 5 GoldStar extenions, is known as a GoldStar result, and can be identified by the special logo displayed on its FDR, and the special recognition that is included in the Executive Summary.
